The Bodycare Journal: Top 5 Sleep Elixir Recipes
Lately, I’ve gotten in the habit of resolving my health concerns with natural remedies. This means stocking up on herbs and superfoods. In doing so, I noticed a huge change in my body and usually that’s hard for me to decipher. Making elixirs is a fun way to incorporate more nutritious foods into my diet.
Elixirs are drinks or “concoctions” of foods or juices that provide medicinal solutions. It’s expanded my horizon on what proper ingredients can do for your body. There are many different recipes to choose from for all types of issues or concerns but lately, sleep is the #1 priority.
If you can relate, I’ve listed 5 top elixirs that work for me.
- The Viral Cherry Drink: The more important ingredient here is organic tart cherry juice. You’ll need 1 cup tart cherry juice, 1 tablespoon of magnesium powder, and the Cherry Vanilla Soda from OLIPOP (optional but helps with the taste).
- Turmeric Latte Recipe: For this, Preheat or steam the milk. If your steamer allows, steam it with the turmeric powder added on top. If not, add the warm milk and the rest of the ingredients to a blender and blend until frothy.
Ingredients:
- 1 tspn Turmeric
- 8 oz steamed or pre-heated milk of your choice (oat milk, hemp milk or almond milk)
- 1 tspn raw honey (Manuka Honey or your choice)
- 1 tspn Organic Coconut Oil
- Hot Chocolate Reishi: Warm milk of choice in a small pot on the stove and bring to a light simmer, remove from the stove and pour into a blender with the remaining ingredients, lastly, blend on high for 15-30 seconds, until well combined and frothy.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup milk of choice (almond, cashew, or oat)
- 1 packet Four Sigmatic Reishi Hot Cacao
OR
- 1 tbsp cacao, cocoa or carob powder, unsweetened
- 1 packet Four Sigmatic Reishi
- ¼ tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp. coconut oil or coconut butter
- 1 tsp. raw honey, maple syrup, or sweetener or choice (optional but yummy!)
- Hot honey shot: This one is super quick to make! Warm up 1/4 cup of water. Mix in 1 tablespoon of magnesium power, 1-2 tablespoons of honey, and 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Make sure it’s warm and drink!
- Lavender Latte: One of my absolute favorites! Warm non-dairy milk or your choice of milk in a small pot on the stove and bring to a light simmer, remove from the stove and pour into a blender with remaining ingredients. Lastly, blend on high for 15-30 seconds, until well combined and frothy.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup milk of choice (almond, coconut, or oat)
- 1 Tablespoon culinary-grade dried lavender
- 1 Teaspoon coconut oil or coconut butter
- ½ Tablespoon sweetener of choice (we love raw honey, maple syrup or ½ – 1 pitted medjool date)
- ½ tsp. ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- Pinch of pink Himalayan sea salt (optional)
