The Bodycare Journal: Lower Back Relief
As a massage therapist, I often see complaints of the lower back. Lower back pain, tension, and tightness can come from various things, such as repetitive motion, daily activity, working out, posture, etc. I created a series of at-home massage techniques that are dedicated to relieving everyday muscle tension.
Personally, sitting at my computer for hours out of the day causes my lower back pain. The repetitive motion of sitting, reclining, and looking down tends to pull on my lower back the most. I’m a massage therapist but I admit, I have periods of bad posture. We are all humans striving for better body care! As you know, it’s important to relieve this tightness or it will take a toll on your day-to-day. If you make these at-home massage techniques a part of your routine, you will start to see a difference on how your body feels and performs.
All of the self-massage tips are made to be quick, easy, and effective. This one is for your lower back. Grab a tennis ball, lacrosse ball, or massage ball, and here’s what you do:
– Place the ball on the lower back/top of the glute area.
– Use the wall for support.
– Move up and down. Repeat 10-15x
– Move side to side. Repeat 10-15x
– Repeat this on both sides for as long as you desire.
I usually complete at least 2-3 sets but do as many as you like! Just in case you need a video, I have one linked below! Keep an eye out for more on this body care series.
“The most important thing is posture: when you get old, it’s the way you walk, the way you stand, that shows it.”
