The Bodycare Journal: Moving Forward from Trauma
Have you ever had an experience that you realized was traumatizing but after the fact? Maybe you experienced a moment that triggered past trauma. Something as tiny as a smell, an object, or an event can trigger past life traumas.
Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience. From childhood through adulthood there are many times when trauma can appear very clearly or go unnoticed. Some events are more traumatic than others. Major or minor, there are ways to work through this. It’s never a good practice to hold on to traumatic moments because they will continue to affect your life and the people in it.
I experienced a traumatic event that I didn’t know affected me until after a few days that it happened. It made me second-guess myself, my career, & my safety. In my opinion, if I had chosen to never deal with this situation internally, I probably would have been in another career field. I’m a mobile massage therapist and sometimes people cross boundaries. This was such an overstep that I decided to change paths but for the better!
After processing what happened and dealing with the situation, I was not only able to stay in my career field but I leveled up in a major way. I was only able to do this because I didn’t let that traumatic experience take away my dreams or change who I am. It definitely knocked me down for a moment but once I gained my confidence and released what happened, it only powered my success. Sometimes, we as people will hold on to things for too long and it takes over—mind, body, & soul.
Moving through this can be challenging but here are some ways that may help.
Speak with a therapist– therapy isn’t what people make it out to be. It literally can be used as a tool to better your life.
Journaling– specifically write down your feelings very bluntly and honestly. Then read them aloud. Continue this until you understand the “why”.
Practice yoga– yoga is a good form of mental and physical exercise. This will help you control your breathing ultimately keeping you relaxed and focused.
Don’t let anyone or anything steal your light. Remember that. Always continue to elevate and enjoy every moment that you’re given in life. Spread kindness and teach others whatever you can. We all have one life but each story will be different. You hold the ability to confront your emotions confidently and this my friend, will bring eternal happiness.
Here’s a link to a video where I discuss one of my experiences.
Hope this week’s entry was helpful to you.
