The Bodycare Journal: The Power in Routine
“Do something today that your future self will thank you for..” — Unknown.
Regular routines can help us feel like we have control over our daily lives and that we can take positive steps in managing our health. For me, a routine keeps me on top of eating healthier, working out, and having the proper hours of sleep. Each day, once my routine is completed, I go to bed feeling more prepared for the next day.
Eating healthier has become a true priority. This past year, I’ve been paying more attention not only to what I am eating but why. For example, every morning, I include an herbal tea and a small breakfast into my morning routine. Without this, I will feel drowsy and hungry by the time I get to work. The herbal tea wakes me up and the small breakfast is usually packed with protein which gives me a jump start to my day. For lunch, lately, making salads has helped me add more vegetables into my diet and also, gives me more energy throughout the day. My morning routine not only includes me prepping for healthier meals but also, giving back to my body.
Each morning, I make sure to stretch. Starting my day with at least 5 different stretches gives my body the opportunity to wake up and recover from laying in bed. I also, make sure to incorporate everyday things like, skin care, oral hygiene, and a small walk with my dog. With each day being different, the steps in which I follow my morning routine may be super organized. However, I make sure to do at least those same things every day.
At the end of my day, I start to prepare myself for the next day. This routine includes me coming home and immediately working out. For me, if I don’t do this step right when I get home, my routine will be thrown off and I just won’t work out. Then I make my lunch for the following day, eat dinner, clean a bit, shower, skin, oral hygiene, and body care. There are some nights when the routined steps may get mixed up but for the most part, I try to keep a very strict night routine. I think that night routines are equally as important as morning routines because after it’s complete, my body just wants to lay down and fall asleep.
Having a routine is important because with them you’ll grow and as you grow, your routines will evolve. The power of this will help you meet your daily recommended body activity levels. Your routine will keep you on your toes and your body will start to feel happier, healthier, and relaxed. Keep in mind that everyone will have a different routine but knowing yourself definitely helps to keep the consistency in whatever body goals you want to accomplish.
