Peep This Short Animation Imagining A Fully Automated World

According to some experts, machines are well on track on take up to 50% of our jobs within the next 30 years. If you go to some places now – you may have already noticed the transformation. McDonald’s, for example, has little kiosks where you can order your food and pay with your phone. I think I saw about 4 employees working that day.

The Guardian has worked with Moth Collective to create a short animation imagining what our future might be like.

Entitled “The Last Job on Earth”, it follows a young woman called Alice, the holder of the last recognizable job on Earth, as she wakes up in a futuristic city. After reading the news on her bathroom mirror while brushing her teeth, she heads to the medical center for a medical check before heading to work in a self-driving pod. Unfortunately, once she arrives she’s in for a bit of a shock.

While we can’t predict the future, we can imagine a world without work – one where those who own the tech get rich from it and everyone else ekes out a living, propped up by an increasingly fragile state. Meet Alice, holder of the last recognizable job on Earth, trying to make sense of her role in an automated world.
