Watch Terry Adkins, Flumen Orationis, 2012
Flumen Orationis (2012) by conceptual artist Terry Adkins will screen in its entirety beginning Friday, July 10 at 10am, and will be available to watch on IGTV and ICA Channel through July 17.
Terry Adkins’s work often took the form of “abstract portraits” of Black Americans whose legacies had been historically under- or misrepresented. With the masterful video Flumen Orationis, Adkins interpreted the audio recording of Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous Riverside Church speech, combining it with the music of American protest icon Jimi Hendrix. King’s speech was controversial in its time for tying Civil Rights to an international struggle for the rights of BIPOC and the anti-war movement. This work was featured as part of “Infinity is Less Than One,” a survey for the work of Terry Adkins organized by ICA Miami in 2018.
