Book Recommendation: Name of the Wind.
As time passes and technology slowly starts to take over, people gain the ability to consume large amounts of information at once. This, in turn, can be considered either a good thing or a bad thing. However one particular action that I have seen get affected by the change of technology is the increase in difficulty to pin down an exciting novel, and with the large selection of novels to choose from finding a quality read can be downright frustrating. This is why in this article I will be recommending a specific book for readers to take a look at and hopefully enjoy.
“Name of the Wind” by Patrick Rothfuss is the book I will be recommending to pick up and try out. It takes after the very popular series Game of Thrones in nature, and employs an interesting cast of many characters each with their own motivations and needs. The story also adds the ability to use magic to not only add upon the motivations and desires of the characters but also make the story more unique and fun to read.
One example of why the story is so interesting and different comes from the magic they use within the story. The main magic used is grounded in a strict set of rules, so magic seems natural and well thought out with the rules also adhering to some semblance of scientific facts. An example would be you can transfer energy between two different objects.
A quick preview to introduce the book can best be found on the back. “I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep.
You may have heard of me.”
The book is a very interesting read and one of my favorites. It leaves you with a lasting impression that will leave you longing for more.
