Board Game of the Week #2: Settlers of Catan
Hello again, I’ve come to deliver on new and interesting board games for you, your friends, and your family to enjoy. This week I will be talking about the game called Settlers of Catan. The game itself is simple and fun to play; with the only objective b eing to get ten victory points. The ways to earn these points vary with the most common way being building more towns and cities around the map you create. To set up the game, you first arrange the different tiles you start with randomly to make an island. Then afterward you set up your first two villages to start off the game. You then take turns with the other players, rolling the dice to see what different types of resources you will end up getting, such as bricks or sheep. What makes the game unique and interesting is that you are able to trade resources with other players. You gain victory points by building cities and villages as well as other objectives.
The game offers many different strategies to pursue. Do you team up with others players and trade resources you might need, or do you try to expand your territory to collect more resources? And because the resource tiles are always set up randomly it creates a new and unpredictable game each time you play, and in turn, causes you to start thinking very strategically about each move you make.
Settlers of Catan is a wonderful game that helps improve and build on your attention to detail, strategic thinking, and memory. It’s also a fun way to spend an afternoon with people you like.
